One Year Introduction to Psychoanalytic Self Psychology and Intersubjectivity Theory for Professionals (Prior to Psychoanalytic Training)

This 1 year program in specialized self psychology involves a 20 class sequence that provides an introduction to topics including the origins and evolution of self psychological theory and technique, the models of intersubjectivity and their application to treatment and the relevance of infant research to development and adult clinical work.  Participants will have an opportunity to learn about Kohut’s contributions, variants of intersubjectivity theory, infant research and the Boston Process of Change Study Group from the faculty of The Institute of the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity. A number of these faculty members have been instrumental in furthering conceptual developments in these areas.  This course sequence is especially devised for the mental health practitioner who has not engaged in psychoanalytic training yet and who wants to learn about these ”cutting edge” ideas in order to improve his/her clinical work. Students who successfully complete this one year sequence can gain credit towards meeting the requirements for the 4 year psychoanalytic program at IPSS.
